What is Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray Blackcurrant?

This throat spray is a treatment that works to relieve pain in the throat. The active ingredient in this spray is benzocaine. Benzocaine is a local anaesthetic that helps to numb pain in the throat and make swallowing easier.

 

What causes a sore throat?

A sore throat can be caused by several conditions, with the most likely being an infection such as a cold or the flu. A sore throat can also be caused by other conditions, such as laryngitis, tonsillitis, and smoking. Irritation in the back of the throat can cause pain when swallowing, redness in the mouth and throat, and also a mild cough.

 

Who is this Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray suitable for?

This throat spray is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over.  This spray should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the throat spray. It should also not be used if any of the following apply to you:

  • Severe difficulty swallowing
  • Difficulty breathing

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this spray?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this throat spray.

 

How should Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray Blackcurrant be used?

Take the cap off the nozzle and then rotate the nozzle in a half-circle motion. If you are using for the first time, or not used it in a while, then spray first into a sink to activate. When spraying, open the mouth and spray towards the back of the throat, with the nozzle just inside the mouth. Spray 3 times into the mouth every 2-3 hours, up to 8 times a day. Do not use for more than 3 days in a row. If problems persist, speak to a doctor or pharmacist for advice.

 

Are there any side effects?

Like with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Difficulty breathing and skin reactions can occur as a result of using this spray, though it is rare. If you do notice a side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
