What is Olbas Oil Inhalant Decongestant?
Olbas Oil Inhalant Decongestant is a versatile mixture of essential plant oils that can be used in different ways to relieve nasal and bronchial congestion, as well as congestion caused by hay fever.
What causes congestion?
The most common causes of congestion are:
- A cold.
- The flu.
- Sinus infections.
Congestion caused by illness should improve within a week. If symptoms of congestion haven’t cleared within a week, seek medical advice from your GP or a pharmacist.
Some causes of long-term nasal congestion may be:
- Allergies.
- Hay fever.
- The first trimester of pregnancy due to hormonal fluctuations.
How can this product be used?
This product can be used for nasal congestion relief, by inhaling from a tissue or from vapour created by adding to hot water. Olbas Oil Decongestant can also be rubbed on the skin to relieve muscular pain such as:
- Backache
- Sciatica
- Lumbago
- Fibrositis (pain, stiffness and tenderness of muscles, tendons and joints)
- Rheumatic pain.
How to use Olbas Oil Inhalant Decongestant.
Using with a tissue:
Adult and children aged 12 and over:
- Day: Add 2 or 3 drops to a tissue and inhale the vapours.
- Night: Add 2 or 3 drops to a tissue and leave it inside a pillowcase to inhale throughout the night.
Children aged 2 and over:
- Day: Add 2 or 3 drops to a tissue and hold close to, but not touching, the nose to allow the child to breathe in vapours.
- Night: Add 2 or 3 drops to a tissue and place in the bedroom out of the child’s reach to inhale throughout the night.
Children aged 3 months to 2 years:
- Day: Add 1 drop to a tissue and hold close to, but not touching, the nose to allow the child to breathe in vapours.
- Night: Add 1 drop to a tissue and place in the bedroom out of the child’s reach, to inhale throughout the night.
NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 3 MONTHS.
Using with hot water:
Adults and children aged 12 and over:
- Day: Add 2 or 3 drops to hot water and inhale the vapours.
- Night: Add 2 or 3 drops to hot water and leave in the bedroom to inhale throughout the night.
Children aged 2 and over:
- Day: Add 2 or 3 drops to hot water and allow the child to breathe in vapours or leave in the room out of the child’s reach to inhale the vapours.
- Night: Add 2 or 3 drops to hot water and leave in the bedroom out of the child’s reach to inhale throughout the night.
NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 2 YEARS OF AGE.
As a rub:
Adults and children aged 12 and over:
Apply with gentle massage to the painful area three times daily.
Children under 12 years:
Not recommended.
When NOT to use this product.
Do NOT use Olbas Oil if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine (see ingredients tab for full list). Seek advice from your doctor or a pharmacist if you are pregnant or breast-feeding or if you’re taking blood-thinning tablets before you use Olbas Oil.
Warnings.
If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 7 days, contact your doctor or a pharmacist.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, Olbas Oil can cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. You may notice the following mild side effects if the oil comes into contact with the skin:
- Hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash.
- A stinging sensation which lasts only a short while.
