What causes a chesty cough?
A cough is your body’s reflex action to clear your airways of mucus, particles and irritants such as dust or smoke. A chesty cough happens when phlegm is produced to help clear your airways. The most common causes of coughs include:
- Infections such as cold and flu
- Allergies
- Flare-up of conditions such as asthma or COPD
Most coughs clear up on their own within a couple of weeks and shouldn’t be a cause for concern. However, if you have a cough for more than 3 weeks or a cough that is severe, it is recommended that you seek medical advice as it may be a symptom of an underlying condition.
How can Lemsip Cough help to relieve your chesty cough?
Lemsip cough contains the active ingredient, guaifenesin which belongs to a group of medicines known as expectorants. This active ingredient works by loosening and clearing mucus from the lungs which makes it easier to cough up. This can help to relieve congestion to help you breathe easier. The oral solution is easy to administer and is suitable for adults and children over the age of 12.
